Are you using your B&O cartridge in a NON B&O table?

B&O made ½” adapters for their cartridges, allowing them to be used in NON B&O tables. That was back in the 60's, 70's ~ but they stopped making adapters in the mid 70's.

Soundsmith is now manufacturing these adapters once again, which will allow the last series of B&O models (and five of our models) to be used in a non B&O turntable.

Installing your cartridge, and other useful Videos (click this)

B&O cartridges are HIGH compliance - and normally designed for low mass arms. In the 60's and 70's there many low mass arms, and B&O tables featured them.

Arm designs after that started becoming heavier to accommodate the development of Moving Coil designs, which were almost always LOW compliance, and required heavier arms.

Using a B&O cartridge in a medium or high mass arm can be done, and there are some engineers that have promoted this match and believe that better performance can be achieved by doing such, but it does require careful setup.

High compliance cartridges will be more sensitive to poorly done arm adjustment, especially anti-skating adjustment. Please see our website for how to adjust anti-skating.

So - with that said and with that understanding......it can be made to work very well, but requires care.

The original B&O MMC1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 as well as Soundsmith models SMMC1, 2, 3, 4 and The Voice model for B&O, CAN be used with wonderful results with our new adapter on a non-B&O turntable.

If you use our SMMC20 series to replace your MMC3000 through 6000, or MMC10 or MMC20 series originals, and your original B&O cartridge of that series was used with A PLUG-IN B&O Adapter on a NON B&O table, our SMMC20 series must be modified to fit. There is a $50 surcharge to modify our SMMC20 series, and you must contact us to special order this modification.
